Here is a little secret: This will be the next book we read in the ATPE Book Circle!!! Eric Jensen's Brain-Based Learning will begin on September 19, 2011. A syllabus will be posted on the Idea Exchange mid-August.

Thanks for sharing the "little secret". I'll order the book today =:-)

I discovered I have read his book "Arts With the Brain in Mind" - very convincing!

EDIT: Jensen is prolific, and uses the same words in his titles. I've narrowed it down to two, so is it:

or
Teaching with the Brain in Mind, Revised 2nd Edition (2005)

My guess is it's the newest one =:-) Let us know.

The Jensen journey has led me to discover one of his newer books with a very provocative title: Teaching with Poverty in Mind: What Being Poor Does to Kids' Brains and What Schools Can Do about It - ordered a copy today. I think you must feel it's your job to keep us reading =:-) Thanks!

The next ATPE Book Circle will begin September 19, 2011 over the book, Brain-Based Learning by Eric Jensen (Second Edition, ISBN# 978-1-4129-6256-8). This book can be found at most major book stores and online (I purchased my copy at Amazon.com for $33.25) A complete course syllabus will be posted on the ATPE Idea Exchange August 19, 2011 and at this time you will be able to sign up for the program.

What about a book that will help educators increase scores for the African American students?  Any suggestions.

Coming off of this high school graduation commencement speech
You Are Not Special Commencement Speech from Wellesley High School
http://www.youtube.com

I think the next book study should be on one of these 3 books:

A Nation of Wimps: The High Cost of Invasive Parentinby Hara Estroff Marano

Under Pressure: Rescuing Our Children from the Culture of Hyper-parenting by Carl Honore

Too Much of a Good Thing: Raising Children of Character in an Indulgent Age

We had an inservice today with Leslie Milder of the Friends of Texas Public Schools organization.  She has a book called Hello My Name is Public School and I have an Image Problem.  It looks interesting and she was an amazingly good speaker.

I just received a copy of this book, as well! I've started it and will definitely consider for a future study!
